Welcome!

Hello everybody, and welcome to my very first post on The Christian Ear.

You may be asking yourself… what’s this going to be about? Well, I’ve tried to choose a name that encapsulates my intended focus. Allow me to explain:

The ear is used not only to hear, but also to listen, perceive and discern what others are communicating. This communication can take the form of news, current events, or commentary. But it can also be music.

Music and sound recording are a big part of my life, so expect far-ranging and lively discussion of music and sound-related topics on The Christian Ear. I’ll be letting you know about new Christian music that I’m producing as it becomes available. I’ll also be surveying the current music landscape, analyzing lyrics of songs, providing tips on how to use a recording studio, and more.

This will be in addition to sharing with you noteworthy news and current events that you probably won’t hear about in the “mainstream media”, their impact of on today’s culture, and the role of Christianity as our moral compass. I want this forum to be thought-provoking, and with that goal in mind I hope you will join me in the conversation and post your comments. Let your voice be heard!

But an ear that is Christian? What’s up with that?

Have you ever noticed that two people can hear the same thing and come to completely different understandings or conclusions? Jesus Himself spoke to the multitudes in parables and then would say to them, “He who has ears let him hear!” The meaning of the parable was obvious to those who heard it from God’s perspective, but those who didn’t were clueless. In much the same way, what we hear can lead us to very different conclusions depending on what kind of ears we have.

The Christian ear is connected to a mind that is informed by Christ.

If our minds are not informed by Christ, instead of hearing the truth we will hear riddles or, even worse, call the good we hear evil and the evil we hear good. This is what I notice even in some churches and Christian circles today (but that’s a topic for another post).

Which leads me to the topic I’d like to kick off with today:

I’ve gone back to listen to music that I once enjoyed years ago before I became a Bible believing Christian, and I have been stunned, shocked- and even disgusted! I couldn’t believe I heard those same songs and was never offended by what the author said. In fact, I may have actually enjoyed the message and revelled in it.

What say you? Have you ever been amazed that the same event can be heard so differently by the Christian and the non Christian ear? I’d love to hear your feedback.

Until next time,

Rudy Sanchez

  1. Congratulations Rudy, on a job well done!
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your articles and look forward to discovering so much more through “The Christian Ear.” I believe that this will serve to awaken many minds and open many hearts.
I pray that as more readers become familiar with this new resource they will recommend it to their family and friends in addition to just about anyone who is ready for a new and wholesome outlook on various subjects from a Christian perspective.
Personally, I would just love to know more about the fabulous new songs that you’ve been working on. It would also be very interesting to find out if there have been any changes in copyright procedure. I will be checking in to see if you provide some expert advice on the proper copyright forms required to protect our music, any changes in pricing, or better yet, any shortcuts or valuable tips regarding the do’s and don’ts of not just copyright, but all aspects of recording music.
I have been greatly blessed to know you both personally and professionally. Now, through this wonderfully new avenue of communication, countless others are soon to be as richly blessed. Keep up the exceptional work, Rudy. You continue to inspire me through your selfless work and efforts in helping others.
    Blessings,
    Anny

      Anny,

Thanks for the encouraging word and suggestions for future articles. Please email your friends and acquaintances and let them know about The Christian Ear, and be sure to sign up for RSS or email updates. I’m working as fast as possible to get quality content up and running, but since I am the only writer at this point, things will necessarily need to get off to a slow start. That’s why it’s important for everyone who appreciates the content to post comments here as you have. Let’s have dialogue and share our thoughts- agree or disagree!

    Barbie,

Thanks for adding to the conversation! Great point- we should ask whether what we hear is edifying or not. That disqualifies a huge chunk of what we hear in the media, even some “Christian” media.

As I read your post, it occurred to me that sometimes we really do have no choice but to hear negative messages. We may have control over the TV in our home, but as soon as we walk through the electronics department at Wal-Mart we’ll be bombarded with sounds that come from foolish minds (from a biblical perspective, that is… we become fools when we don’t apply the wisdom of God). The sounds can be nonsense, as you said, or downright lies from the pit of Hell.

Sometimes the truth is not immediately apparent. But the beauty of Christianity is that it is a reasoning faith- we are exhorted to search the scriptures, test the spirits, examine ourselves, etc. If we diligently seek the truth from God, He will reveal it to us in His time.

    Rudy,

Your first post was great-you informed your readers of what to expect from your blog and posed some thought provoking questions that we as Christians must ask ourselves.
As a fellow songwriter, I know how the words in a song impact the communication of your message.
One of the most important things I believe that you wrote was that “the Christian ear is connected to a mind that is informed by Christ.”
Shouldn’t we ask ourselves then, would Christ consider the music/words we are listening to worth it? Do the words edify the believer?
I think we are forced to listen to much information in our world today just by turning on the TV. A lot of what we hear is nonsense, at the least and most importantly the rest may actually harmful to a mind that wants to remain informed by Christ…..
I am so glad that you started this blog. I am looking forward to “hearing” more from The Christian Ear!
    God Bless your endeavors,
    Barbie

You have hit some extremely important points! I too found myself interpreting songs from the past in a much different way than before I became a Christian. It’s amazing how Christ transforms our minds as we go through the process of sanctification.

These days, the news and media are controlled by the minds of very corrupt people. I am excited to hear the TRUTH for once! Keep posting!
